Alpha Domus
Alpha Domus is a family-owned winery in Hawke’s Bay, known for its classical structure, regional integrity, and a consistent sense of polish. Established in 1990 by the Ham family in the Bridge Pa Triangle, Alpha Domus has long focused on crafting varietal wines with depth and balance — particularly from Bordeaux varieties, Chardonnay, and Syrah. Its name and identity are rooted in flight — a tribute to the nearby aerodrome and the soaring, structured character of its wines.
The estate vineyard is located on the warm, free-draining red metal gravels of the Bridge Pa Triangle, an area prized for its ability to ripen Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah while retaining freshness and finesse. Sustainable viticulture guides every stage of production, with careful canopy management and low yields ensuring concentration and natural balance in the fruit. The family’s hands-on approach and multi-generational continuity bring consistency and a clear sense of place to every release.
In the winery, the process is thoughtful and restrained. Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, and fermented in small batches. Reds are aged in French oak — typically a mix of new and seasoned — to build texture and length without overwhelming the fruit. Chardonnay is barrel-fermented with lees ageing and malolactic fermentation for roundness and complexity. The flagship range, including The Aviator and The Navigator, reflects the estate’s structured, age-worthy style.
The wines are layered, composed, and expressive of Hawke’s Bay’s warmth and poise. The Aviator, a Merlot-Cabernet blend, is deep and refined — dark plum, graphite, cedar, and fine tannins. The Navigator brings richness and harmony with generous fruit, spice, and integrated oak. Chardonnay shows ripe stone fruit, lemon curd, and nutty elegance, while Syrah is floral and savoury, with peppery lift and mineral line. Across the portfolio, Alpha Domus wines reflect a quiet confidence — built for balance, clarity, and longevity.
What defines Alpha Domus is its consistency — a producer grounded in its region and rooted in its family, crafting wines that soar not with speed, but with steady, composed lift.
These are wines that take flight slowly — poised, polished, and built on the strength of land, legacy, and lift.
