Amisfield
Set beneath the dramatic Pisa mountain range in Central Otago, Amisfield Wines has quietly become one of New Zealand’s most respected producers, known for its purity of fruit, organic practices, and unwavering commitment to place. What began in 1988 as a converted merino sheep station is now a single-estate vineyard that defines the elegance and intensity of Central Otago Pinot Noir and aromatic whites.
The vineyard spans 92 hectares and is fully certified organic—a journey that began with intention and culminated in 2021, marking Amisfield’s deep respect for the land it stewards. The region’s semi-continental climate, marked by hot summers, cold winters, and low rainfall, allows grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, yielding wines of vibrancy, texture, and finesse. Sustainability is not a marketing point at Amisfield—it is a way of life, woven into the daily rhythms of viticulture and winemaking.
Pinot Noir is the estate’s heartbeat, comprising more than 60% of its production. These wines are known for their structure, savoury complexity, and clarity of site. Alongside Pinot, Amisfield produces exceptional Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chenin Blanc—each shaped by a philosophy of minimal intervention. Wild ferments, gentle handling, and careful ageing preserve the character of the fruit and the nuances of each vintage.
The winery itself, completed in 2006, was built to support this low-intervention ethos. It is a space where precision meets patience, allowing wines to evolve naturally with minimal interference. Each bottling tells a story not just of variety, but of place—of soils, climate, and the team behind it.
Beyond the vineyard and winery, Amisfield’s iconic Bistro and Cellar Door near Lake Hayes has become a destination in its own right. The “Trust the Chef” menu offers a locally sourced, seasonal dining experience that mirrors the philosophy in the glass: thoughtful, expressive, and rooted in the land. Set against the backdrop of the Remarkables, it’s one of the country’s most celebrated expressions of food and wine culture.
Amisfield Wines reflects the harmony between environment, intention, and craft. With each bottle, it invites drinkers to experience the beauty of Central Otago—not just through flavour, but through connection to the land and people who bring it to life.
