Bodegas Luzón
Bodegas Luzón is a historic estate in Jumilla, southeastern Spain, where Mediterranean light, altitude, and ancient soils yield wines of bold character and unexpected finesse. Founded in the late 19th century and revitalized in the modern era, Luzón is one of the leading voices in Jumilla’s transformation — a producer that honours the power of the region’s flagship grape, Monastrell, while embracing balance, sustainability, and innovation.
The vineyards lie at elevations between 600 and 900 metres, where the contrast between hot days and cool nights allows for slow ripening and natural acid retention. The soils — a mix of limestone, sand, and gravel — are ideal for dry-farmed, low-yielding vines, many of them decades old. Monastrell thrives in these conditions, alongside Syrah, Garnacha, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bodegas Luzón’s commitment to organic viticulture and sustainable practices ensures that each vineyard expresses its rugged origin with purity and intent.
In the cellar, the philosophy blends tradition and modern precision. Grapes are sorted and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks, with maceration times tailored to varietal and vintage. Ageing takes place in a mix of French and American oak, used with restraint to support, not dominate, the wine. The result is a portfolio that includes both fruit-forward, approachable styles and deeper, more structured cuvées capable of ageing gracefully.
The wines are rich, expressive, and sun-shaped. Luzón Colección Monastrell shows ripe black fruit, dried herbs, and fine tannins over a mineral backbone. Altos de Luzón, a blend of Monastrell, Cabernet, and Tempranillo, offers structure, spice, and length, while Luzón Organic brings lifted aromatics and purity with no compromise in depth. At the top of the range, Luzón Selección delivers complexity, polish, and an unmistakable sense of place — concentrated yet balanced, with notes of plum, cocoa, and warm earth.
What defines Bodegas Luzón is its rootedness — a winery that lets Jumilla speak in full voice, through wines that carry both the heat of the day and the cool calm of elevation.
These are wines that emerge from stone and light — powerful yet composed, shaped by the extremes of their land, and built to linger.
