Bodegas Pintia

Bodegas Pintia

Bodegas Pintia is the Vega Sicilia family’s boldest expression — a project rooted in the ancient, arid landscapes of Toro, where raw power is tamed through precision and patience. Established in the late 1990s and releasing its first vintage in 2001, Pintia was born of a desire to explore the character of Tinta de Toro, a clone of Tempranillo known for its intensity, structure, and resilience. What began as a challenge has become a benchmark: a wine of strength held in perfect architectural balance.

The vineyards lie on the stony, sunbaked soils along the Duero River, where extremes of temperature and very low rainfall yield small berries with thick skins, robust tannins, and deep color. The vines — many over 40 years old — are farmed sustainably, with meticulous canopy work and harvesting decisions made block by block, sometimes vine by vine. Here, concentration is not chased — it’s inherent.

Winemaking at Pintia is rooted in restraint. Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted twice, and fermented in stainless steel or oak vats with native yeasts. Extraction is careful — enough to harness power, but never to overwork. Ageing takes place in a mix of French and American oak, both new and used, for 12–15 months, followed by extensive bottle ageing in the estate’s cool cellars. The goal is not to soften Toro’s energy, but to sculpt it — to let the wine breathe into itself.

The wine is dense, dark, and composed. Pintia opens with black fruit, violet, cedar, and graphite — aromas that rise slowly from the glass. The palate is broad but focused, with powerful tannins wrapped in polish, and a long, mineral finish that speaks of stony soils and old vines. Despite its concentration, the wine shows surprising freshness — a hallmark of the Vega Sicilia ethos — and an ability to age with poise and grace.

What defines Bodegas Pintia is not its origin in Toro’s extremes, but its ability to transform them — to channel sun and stone into something finely structured and enduring.

This is a wine that doesn't tame its landscape — it translates it, with tension, precision, and the quiet force of something built to last.
