Chateau Figeac

Château Figeac is a name that resonates with quiet majesty on the western edge of Saint-Émilion, a First Growth in all but title until its elevation to Premier Grand Cru Classé “A” in 2022. With origins dating back to Gallo-Roman times, Figeac is among Bordeaux’s oldest wine estates — a guardian of history and a pioneer of modernity. Through centuries of evolution, one thing has remained constant: its singular identity. While many of its neighbors lean heavily on Merlot, Figeac is defined by its embrace of Cabernet, both Franc and Sauvignon, setting it apart stylistically and structurally within the Right Bank.

The vineyard comprises 54 hectares of deep gravel knolls interspersed with blue clay and sandy soils — a rare composition in Saint-Émilion, more evocative of the Médoc than the plateau. This terroir allows for an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Merlot in near-equal balance. Farming is carried out with precision and ecological awareness, while the state-of-the-art winery, completed in 2021, enables parcel-level vinification with gravity flow and gentle extraction. Each plot is harvested and handled individually, reflecting a philosophy of meticulous observation and respect for nuance.

The resulting wine is cerebral, poised, and deeply layered. Cabernet Sauvignon provides spine and tension, while Cabernet Franc lends aromatic lift, florality, and spice. Merlot adds texture, flesh, and approachability. Figeac is not about immediacy but evolution — a wine that opens gradually, revealing blackcurrant, graphite, cedar, wild herbs, and subtle mineral tones. The tannins are fine and structured, the balance remarkable, the finish long and resonant. It is a wine that rewards patience and contemplation, maturing with harmony and grace.

What elevates Château Figeac is not just its terroir, but its philosophy — one grounded in curiosity, precision, and a quiet refusal to follow. It is a house that does not chase power but embraces complexity; not spectacle, but longevity. Under the direction of the Manoncourt family and estate director Frédéric Faye, Figeac has undergone a renaissance without ever losing its soul.

Château Figeac is for those who seek Bordeaux with clarity and character — a wine of lineage and vision, capable of moving between worlds: Left and Right, past and future, intellect and emotion. It does not declare itself loudly. It reveals itself — slowly, confidently, and with lasting resonance.
