Chateau Hosanna
Château Hosanna is a jewel of Pomerol — small in scale but profound in voice. Nestled on the plateau among the appellation’s most hallowed names, the estate spans just 4.5 hectares and occupies a site once known as Château Certan-Giraud. It was renamed in 1999 after its acquisition by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, and under their stewardship, it has swiftly earned its place as one of the Right Bank’s most compelling and contemplative expressions.
The vineyard lies on prime blue clay and gravel soils, perfectly situated between Vieux Château Certan and Château Lafleur. The plantings are dominated by Merlot, supported by a significant proportion of old-vine Cabernet Franc — some of the oldest in the appellation. These vines, some approaching a century in age, are a vital component of Hosanna’s complexity and aromatic lift. The vineyard is farmed with minimal intervention and deep respect for balance, while vinification takes place at the Moueix facility with gentle extraction and traditional methods. Ageing occurs in French oak, predominantly new, for 16 to 18 months, adding polish and depth without obscuring the wine’s core.
The wine of Hosanna is rich, poised, and deeply layered. Merlot delivers dark cherry, plum, and velvet-like texture, while Cabernet Franc introduces wild herbs, floral notes, and a refined edge. The aromatics are haunting — violets, incense, tobacco leaf, and crushed stone — and the palate is simultaneously dense and lifted. There is both breadth and precision, with supple tannins wrapped around a cool mineral spine. With time, the wine gains in gravitas, developing truffle, spice, and a kind of quiet radiance that lingers long after the glass is empty.
What defines Château Hosanna is its balance of presence and restraint. It is a wine that does not speak loudly, but with purpose — shaped by old vines, thoughtful farming, and the Moueix family's unwavering belief in terroir. It doesn’t chase impact, but instead offers a layered, unfolding experience — one that rewards attention and rewards time.
Château Hosanna is for those who seek the soul of Pomerol — wines that carry weight without excess, and beauty without adornment. A vineyard of old vines and deep roots, a wine of composure and clarity, it is Pomerol whispered with precision.
