Chateau La Fleur-Pétrus

Chateau La Fleur-Pétrus

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a name spoken with quiet reverence in Pomerol — a wine of refinement and restraint, shaped by the same hands that tend to some of the Right Bank’s most iconic terroirs. Acquired in 1950 by Jean-Pierre Moueix, the estate has been steadily elevated over the decades, becoming one of the family's crown jewels. While it shares part of its name with its famed neighbor, La Fleur-Pétrus speaks with a voice all its own — composed, confident, and deeply expressive of place.

The vineyard spans approximately 18.7 hectares, ideally situated on the high plateau of Pomerol, with parcels bordering both Château Lafleur and Château Pétrus. The soils are a mix of gravel, clay, and deep blue clay, offering a natural balance between structure and finesse. Merlot dominates the plantings, with a meaningful proportion of Cabernet Franc and a trace of Petit Verdot. Farming is carried out with meticulous care, parcel by parcel, under the direction of Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. Vinification is traditional yet precise, favoring gentle extraction and gravity-fed movement, followed by élevage in French oak barrels, with subtle use of new wood.

La Fleur-Pétrus is a study in harmony. Merlot provides a plush, generous core — plum, black cherry, and warm spice — while Cabernet Franc lends tension, floral lift, and graphite minerality. The structure is firm but seamless, the mouthfeel satin-like, the finish lingering and composed. With air and age, the wine deepens, revealing forest floor, truffle, and dried herbs — never overextracted, never loud, but always persistent and quietly powerful.

What distinguishes Château La Fleur-Pétrus is its sense of equilibrium — a balance between terroir and touch, fruit and frame, generosity and grace. It is not a wine of immediacy, but of unfolding; not built for spectacle, but for longevity. The Moueix philosophy is evident in every detail: attentive farming, restrained winemaking, and the belief that elegance is not a compromise, but a pursuit.

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is for those who seek Pomerol in its most classic, poised expression — a wine of depth and purity, shaped by heritage and humility. It is a château of quiet conviction, where each vintage whispers a story of clay, care, and time.
