Chateau Giscours

Château Giscours is a name woven into the historic tapestry of Margaux — a Third Growth of the 1855 Classification, yet one whose modern renaissance has placed it among the appellation’s most dynamic and quietly expressive voices. Situated in the commune of Labarde, the estate spans a vast and varied landscape, anchored by its stately 19th-century château and framed by gardens, woodland, and vines. Since 1995, under the ownership of the Albada Jelgersma family, Giscours has undergone a patient, thoughtful transformation — one defined by respect for terroir, ecological integrity, and classical balance.

The vineyard encompasses over 100 hectares of vines, planted primarily on deep Garonne gravel soils that lend themselves naturally to Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Merlot and smaller portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Farming is sustainable and increasingly regenerative, with an emphasis on biodiversity, soil health, and low-impact viticulture. In the cellar, gravity-fed vinification and gentle extraction methods ensure that the purity of the fruit and the nuances of site are preserved. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with a careful hand guiding integration and evolution.

Giscours is Margaux in both shape and soul — a wine of elegance, architecture, and aromatic lift. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, cassis, and a graphite edge; Merlot brings warmth, floral nuance, and polished texture. The result is a wine that is supple yet firm, with layers of violet, black cherry, cedar, and crushed stone unfolding over time. The tannins are long and graceful, the finish lifted and mineral. With age, the wine gains in complexity, never losing its hallmark poise.

What distinguishes Château Giscours is its harmony — a measured equilibrium between power and finesse, heritage and innovation. This is not a château of extremes, but of refinement. The team’s vision is long-term, rooted in a belief that the truest expression of Margaux lies not in flash, but in detail — in listening to the land, nurturing it gently, and crafting wines that reflect its natural rhythm.

Château Giscours is for those who seek Margaux with depth and direction — wines that carry history not as weight, but as lineage. It is a place where scale meets sensitivity, and where each vintage is an invitation to rediscover what timeless Bordeaux can be.
