Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion
Château Larrivet Haut-Brion stands just outside the city of Bordeaux, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation — a château known for its quiet transformation and forward-thinking spirit. Once a relatively modest name, it has evolved into one of the region’s most dynamic estates, thanks to the dedication of the Gervoson family and the thoughtful guidance of winemaker Bruno Lemoine. Though it carries the Haut-Brion name, this is a property with its own identity — rooted in deep gravel soils, bold experimentation, and a commitment to crafting wines that balance power with poise.
The vineyard spans 75 hectares of red varietals and 13 hectares of white, planted across gravel, sand, and clay-limestone parcels. The red vineyard is dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of Cabernet Franc; the white vineyard features Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and a small amount of Sauvignon Gris. Viticulture is precise and sustainable, with a strong emphasis on soil health, canopy management, and plot-by-plot attention. In the cellar, the estate embraces both tradition and innovation — fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel, while ageing might occur in oak barrels, concrete eggs, amphorae, or even glass globes, depending on the cuvée and vintage. This sense of creative freedom never strays from the core mission: expressing terroir with integrity.
The red wines of Larrivet Haut-Brion are polished yet structured — black cherry, cedar, crushed herbs, and cocoa glide over a firm but well-knit frame of tannin. Merlot brings warmth and texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides drive and depth. The whites are striking: vibrant, aromatic, and textured, often fermented in oak for added complexity. Sauvignon Blanc’s citrus and floral notes are complemented by Sémillon’s waxy roundness, with a mineral thread that lifts the finish. Both styles display balance and evolution, with a contemporary energy that sets them apart.
What defines Château Larrivet Haut-Brion is its philosophy of experimentation anchored in place. This is a house that honors tradition without being bound by it — embracing innovation not for novelty, but for precision. It is a property that invites curiosity, pushing the boundaries of what Pessac-Léognan can express.
Château Larrivet Haut-Brion is for those who seek Bordeaux with creativity and clarity — wines that are serious yet spirited, crafted with imagination, and deeply rooted in one of the region’s most expressive terroirs.
