Chateau Latour

Château Latour is a name spoken with reverence — a First Growth that defines the essence of Pauillac: strength, structure, and silence stretched across time. With records dating back to the 14th century, and its iconic tower first mentioned in 1331, Latour is one of Bordeaux’s most enduring estates. Since its elevation in the 1855 Classification, it has remained a symbol of permanence — not only of rank, but of identity. Under the stewardship of François Pinault’s Artémis Domaines since 1993, the estate has quietly embraced modernity without ever compromising its uncompromising core.

The vineyard lies at the southern edge of Pauillac, a privileged enclave of 93 hectares — of which the 47-hectare Enclos forms the heart. These gravelly rises over clay offer natural drainage and deep-rooted strength, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, which comprises around 80% of the plantings. Merlot, with small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, completes the palette. Farming follows organic and biodynamic principles, with certification achieved for the entire vineyard — a reflection of Latour’s long-term vision and precision. In the cellar, vinification is slow, measured, and silent: gravity-fed movement, gentle extraction, and a long élevage in carefully selected oak barrels.

Latour’s wine is an architecture of power — not loud, but immense. Cabernet Sauvignon offers graphite, blackcurrant, and formidable tannins; Merlot contributes shadowy depth and quiet richness. In its youth, the wine is tightly coiled — dark, mineral, commanding. With time, it becomes profound: iron, cedar, tobacco, wet earth, and crushed stone unfold with haunting resonance. The finish is not simply long; it is eternal — a slow, steady echo of place.

What defines Château Latour is its singular philosophy: that wine is not made to impress in the moment, but to endure across decades. Since 2012, the estate has ceased en primeur sales of its grand vin, choosing instead to release only when vintages are ready to be understood. This choice reflects a deeper truth at Latour — that time is not a constraint, but a collaborator. The château works not for the present, but for permanence.

Château Latour is for those who seek not expression, but endurance — a wine of monumental clarity and precision, born from stone and silence. It does not rise quickly. It stands still, and lasts.
