Chateau Latour a Pomerol

Chateau Latour a Pomerol

Château Latour à Pomerol is one of the quiet classics of the Right Bank — a wine that carries the soul of Pomerol with depth, discipline, and a certain serene authority. Despite its proximity to the appellation’s most famous names, Latour à Pomerol has always followed its own path: discreet, timeless, and revered by those who seek authenticity over acclaim. The estate has been managed by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix since the mid-20th century, and under their careful guidance, it continues to reflect the core ideals of the plateau — purity of fruit, structural elegance, and enduring expression of place.

The vineyard spans approximately 7.9 hectares, located in the southern sector of Pomerol, where gravel and clay mingle with iron-rich subsoils. Merlot is the dominant varietal, supported by a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The vines are old, the yields naturally low, and the farming deeply attentive — favoring minimal intervention and sustainable practices. In the cellar, the approach is classical and measured: fermentation in concrete vats, followed by élevage in French oak barrels, about half of which are new. The emphasis is not on stylistic evolution, but on refinement — making each vintage a continuation of the estate’s calm, consistent voice.

Latour à Pomerol’s wine is structured, compact, and quietly powerful. Merlot brings dark cherry, fig, and truffle tones, while Cabernet Franc lifts the aromatics with graphite, dried herbs, and cool spice. The tannins are firm but fine, anchoring the wine without overwhelming it. There’s a clay-born gravitas to the wine’s mid-palate — broad, mineral, and unhurried — unfolding into a finish of black tea, tobacco, and subtle floral nuance. With age, it deepens further, never flashy, always poised.

What defines Château Latour à Pomerol is its philosophical restraint. It is not a wine made for the spotlight, but for the cellar — crafted with humility, intention, and fidelity to terroir. Under the Moueix family's care, the estate remains true to its roots, uninterested in trends, but deeply invested in the quiet beauty of longevity.

Château Latour à Pomerol is for those who appreciate Pomerol’s depth without dramatics — a wine that speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression. Grounded, contemplative, and built for time, it offers a pure expression of clay, care, and classicism.
