Chateau Magence

Chateau Magence

Château Magence is a quiet expression of Graves — a family-owned estate where history, balance, and accessibility converge in a refined, mineral-driven voice. Located in the southern reaches of the Graves appellation near the village of Mazères, the estate is named after the 18th-century manor house that anchors its vineyard holdings. Owned by the Bourdieu family, Château Magence has remained a model of traditional Bordeaux winemaking — producing both red and white wines that reflect the gravelly soils and temperate microclimate of this historic region.

The vineyard spans approximately 40 hectares, planted across well-drained gravel, sand, and clay-limestone soils. The red varietals — Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot — are planted in balance, while the whites are composed of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, in classic Graves proportions. The farming is sustainable and thoughtful, with a focus on maintaining soil health and vineyard longevity. In the cellar, vinification is gentle and traditional: red wines are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and aged in French oak, a portion of which is renewed annually; whites are fermented and aged with lees contact to preserve freshness and texture.

The red wines of Château Magence are medium-bodied and finely structured — combining Cabernet’s aromatic clarity and tannic framework with Merlot’s roundness and approachability. Notes of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, and gravel unfold over a clean, earthy frame, with gentle oak influence adding subtle spice and length. The whites are crisp, lifted, and mineral — Sauvignon Blanc brings citrus, white flowers, and herbal lift, while Sémillon adds texture, flesh, and quiet depth. Both styles carry the hallmark freshness and drinkability that define Graves at its best.

What sets Château Magence apart is its quiet consistency. This is not a château that chases innovation or spectacle, but one that holds to its identity — crafting wines that reflect their place with honesty and care. The Bourdieu family’s commitment to accessible pricing, classical styling, and sustainable viticulture makes Magence a rare kind of Bordeaux: one rooted in quality and integrity without pretense.

Château Magence is for those who seek everyday elegance — wines that speak softly of gravel and light, of family and time. It is a name that invites rather than declares, offering both red and white wines of clarity, poise, and quiet charm.
