Château Malartic Lagravière

Château Malartic Lagravière

With a name that echoes both maritime legacy and viticultural prestige, Château Malartic-Lagravière stands among the rare few Bordeaux estates classified for both red and white wines. Nestled in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, its gravel-laced vineyards and storied past converge in a domaine that champions clarity, balance, and quiet strength.

Originally known as Domaine de Lagravière, the estate took its full name in honor of Admiral Comte de Malartic, a famed 18th-century naval commander. Today, under the stewardship of the Bonnie family—who acquired the property in 1997—Malartic-Lagravière has flourished through careful modernization and a deep respect for its distinctive terroir.

The 53-hectare vineyard lies on a fine plateau of deep gravel with clay-limestone subsoils, perfectly suited to both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Meticulous vineyard management, including sustainable and organic practices, supports biodiversity and enhances the site’s natural expression. The estate is certified High Environmental Value (HVE) and practices precision viticulture at every level.

Vinification is carried out in a gravity-flow cellar, allowing for gentle handling of fruit and purity of expression. Reds are fermented in small temperature-controlled vats, aged in French oak barrels (up to 70% new) for 18–22 months. Whites undergo cold fermentation and are aged on lees in oak, developing complexity and length without excess weight.

The Château Malartic-Lagravière Rouge offers aromatic lift and structure: layers of dark berry, graphite, violet, and subtle spice, all anchored by fine, persistent tannins. The Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc is one of Bordeaux’s finest dry whites—tense, aromatic, and saline, with citrus zest, white flowers, and a textured, mineral core.

This is an estate where elegance meets precision, and innovation quietly serves tradition. Under the Bonnie family’s thoughtful guidance, Malartic-Lagravière has emerged as a reference point for both red and white Pessac-Léognan—wines of integrity, longevity, and unmistakable finesse.

Each bottle is a reflection of gravel and grace—disciplined, luminous, and profoundly composed.
