Chateau Moulin Saint Georges
Tucked into the limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion, Château Moulin Saint-Georges is an estate of understated elegance — a quiet jewel in the crown of the Vauthier family. Owned by the same lineage that guides the iconic Château Ausone, this seven-hectare property reflects the same philosophy of precision, heritage, and patient craft, but speaks in a gentler, more accessible voice.
Planted predominantly to Merlot, with a supporting thread of Cabernet Franc, the vineyard lies on deep clay-limestone soils — the geological spine of Saint-Émilion’s greatest terroirs. Vines average around 25 to 30 years of age, and are tended with the same meticulous attention as Ausone: low yields, hand harvesting, parcel selection. Every gesture is deliberate, every detail considered.
In the cellar, restraint meets refinement. Fermentation unfolds in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and aging takes place in new French oak barrels — typically for 18 to 20 months — integrating texture and aromatic lift without overshadowing the wine’s natural structure. It is a style that privileges purity, depth, and aging potential without excess.
The result is a Saint-Émilion of remarkable poise. Moulin Saint-Georges reveals dark cherry, graphite, and violets in youth, gradually evolving toward tobacco, dried rose, and wet stone. The tannins are polished, the fruit expansive yet sculpted, always underpinned by that signature limestone tension. It is a wine that speaks fluently of its place — not with flamboyance, but with conviction and quiet strength.
While it may live in the shadow of its illustrious sibling, Château Moulin Saint-Georges is far from secondary. It is a domaine that rewards the attentive — offering a window into the soul of Saint-Émilion, rendered with finesse, clarity, and a whisper of the extraordinary.
Here, beneath the ancient soils and within the hands of legacy, Moulin Saint-Georges carves its own path — measured, luminous, and assured.
