Chateau Petit-Village
Château Petit-Village is a quiet gem on the Pomerol plateau — an estate defined not by size or flash, but by refinement, renewal, and its deep connection to the clay-rich heart of the appellation. With origins dating back to the 18th century, the estate occupies a privileged position near Vieux Château Certan and La Conseillante. Since its acquisition by the Moulin family in 2020, Petit-Village has entered a new chapter — one rooted in precision, ecological sensitivity, and the quiet revelation of terroir.
The vineyard spans 10.5 hectares in a single, gently sloping parcel — a rarity in Pomerol — planted predominantly to Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon lending aromatic and structural complexity. The soils are classic for the plateau: deep blue clay and gravel, offering both water retention and mineral freshness. Under the direction of technical director Diana Berrouet-Garcia, the estate has embraced organic viticulture, with a strong focus on soil life, biodiversity, and vine balance. In the cellar, parcel-by-parcel vinification is carried out with restraint and detail, followed by ageing in French oak barrels and amphorae, allowing for clarity and gentle evolution.
Petit-Village’s wine is supple, poised, and elegantly mineral. Merlot brings plum, cherry, and polished texture, while Cabernet Franc adds graphite, violets, and a lift of spice. The profile is fresh, floral, and finely structured — a wine of energy rather than weight. There is a quiet intensity at its core, carried by satin tannins and a saline edge that speaks to the clay beneath. With time, the wine deepens, revealing truffle, rose petals, and soft earth — always composed, never ostentatious.
What sets Château Petit-Village apart is its humility and intent. This is not a Pomerol chasing volume or acclaim, but one seeking to articulate its place with precision and care. Under the Moulin family’s stewardship, the estate is evolving thoughtfully, drawing on tradition while investing in the long arc of soil, vine, and craft.
Château Petit-Village is for those who appreciate Pomerol in its more contemplative form — a wine of intimacy, depth, and clarity. It is not a voice that demands attention, but one that rewards listening: graceful, grounded, and quietly unforgettable.
