Chateau Poujeaux
Château Poujeaux is one of the quiet powerhouses of the Haut-Médoc — a name long associated with consistency, character, and classical Left Bank expression. Nestled within the commune of Moulis-en-Médoc, it has earned a reputation for overdelivering on its status, producing wines that blend structure and charm with remarkable fidelity to site. The estate’s roots trace back to the Middle Ages, but its modern identity was shaped through decades of family ownership and, since 2008, by the Cuvelier family of Clos Fourtet, who have brought renewed energy and quiet refinement to its trajectory.
The vineyard spans 70 hectares in a single, coherent block — a rarity in the Médoc — lying on Günzian gravel and clay-limestone soils. This terroir favors Cabernet Sauvignon, the backbone of the blend, with Merlot playing a vital role, and Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot adding depth and lift. The vines average 35 years in age and are farmed sustainably, with a growing emphasis on biodiversity and soil health. Vinification is carried out in stainless steel and cement vats, with élevage in French oak barrels — around one-third new — designed to preserve fruit purity and structural clarity.
The wine of Poujeaux is generous yet composed. Cabernet Sauvignon brings blackcurrant, graphite, and firm tannins, while Merlot contributes flesh, red plum, and supple charm. There’s a sense of proportion in the glass — classic Médoc grip paired with a certain accessibility and polish. Aromas of violet, cedar, crushed berries, and dried herbs unfold slowly, and the finish lingers with fine mineral tension. It is a wine that bridges structure and ease, designed for both early pleasure and graceful aging.
What defines Château Poujeaux is its authenticity — its refusal to be anything other than what it is: a true expression of Moulis terroir, crafted with care, consistency, and restraint. The Cuvelier family’s influence has brought precision and poise without sacrificing soul. Here, elegance is not chased, but found — in the details, in the vineyard, and in the quiet strength of the wine itself.
Château Poujeaux is for those who seek Bordeaux beyond classification — a wine of real substance, honest origins, and quiet confidence. It is a Médoc of integrity, balance, and enduring charm, rooted in place and crafted for those who know where to listen.
