Chateau Senejac
Château Sénéjac is a quiet classic of the Haut-Médoc — a historic estate rooted in the commune of Le Pian-Médoc, just beyond the boundaries of the more famous appellations, yet consistently producing wines that overdeliver on pedigree and poise. With origins dating back to the 16th century, the estate has long been known for its noble gravel soils and deep-rooted vines. Since 1999, it has been under the stewardship of the Bignon-Cordier family, owners of Château Talbot in Saint-Julien, whose measured investment has brought refinement and clarity to Sénéjac’s already characterful voice.
The vineyard spans 40 hectares of well-drained gravel and sandy-clay soils, planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vines are mature, and viticulture is carried out with a thoughtful balance of tradition and environmental awareness. Vineyard practices favor sustainable methods and careful canopy management, with selective harvesting and plot-by-plot precision. Vinification is traditional, taking place in stainless steel vats, followed by élevage in French oak barrels, about one-third new, to preserve fruit purity and structural definition.
Sénéjac’s wine is classically Médoc — structured yet accessible, offering freshness alongside depth. Cabernet Sauvignon provides a framework of cassis, graphite, and cedar, while Merlot lends roundness and soft spice. The palate is composed, medium-bodied, and balanced, with fine-grained tannins and a clean mineral edge. Aromas of black cherry, tobacco leaf, dried herbs, and crushed stone unfold gently with time. It is a wine that expresses its place faithfully — unforced, grounded, and crafted for both early enjoyment and modest aging.
What distinguishes Château Sénéjac is its quiet integrity. This is not a château chasing prestige, but one that consistently delivers clarity, structure, and honest expression of terroir. Under the Bignon-Cordier family’s direction, the estate has sharpened its precision while maintaining its approachable style — offering Médoc authenticity without affectation.
Château Sénéjac is for those who appreciate Bordeaux in its everyday nobility — a wine of value, virtue, and classical restraint. It is a trusted companion at the table, shaped by heritage, tempered by nature, and delivered with the quiet confidence of a house that knows exactly what it is.
