Chateau Troplong Mondot

Chateau Troplong Mondot

Château Troplong Mondot sits high on the limestone crest of Saint-Émilion, commanding both view and voice. Perched above the village with sweeping views of the Dordogne valley, it is a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate whose identity has been shaped by altitude, artistry, and evolution. Once known for power and decadence, Troplong Mondot has, over the last decade, undergone a quiet transformation — embracing balance, transparency, and the elegance of restraint. Under the ownership of SCOR and the guidance of managing director Aymeric de Gironde, the estate now stands as one of Saint-Émilion’s most refined and terroir-focused expressions.

The vineyard spans 43 hectares in a single block, planted predominantly to Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon adding structure and aromatic lift. The soils are a mosaic of limestone, clay, and flint — a complex, high-altitude terroir that imparts both freshness and depth. Farming is certified organic, with a focus on regenerative agriculture and biodiversity. In the cellar, the approach is intuitive and gentle: plot-by-plot vinification in concrete and oak vats, long macerations by infusion, and ageing in a mix of new and neutral oak, large-format casks, and amphorae — all in pursuit of purity over power.

The wine of Troplong Mondot is luminous and layered. Merlot brings dark cherry, wild plum, and velvet tannins, while Cabernet Franc contributes lift, graphite, and a subtle herbal thread. Cabernet Sauvignon deepens the structure. The result is a wine of vertical energy — dense yet lifted, with aromas of violet, crushed rock, black tea, and forest floor. The finish is long, saline, and composed. Once defined by richness, the wine now moves with rhythm and restraint, retaining its grandeur while gaining in clarity and poise.

What defines Château Troplong Mondot today is its reimagining — not a change of heart, but a return to essence. It is a wine estate that has rediscovered its voice in its vineyard: high, windswept, and luminous. Under Aymeric de Gironde’s leadership, every decision — from farming to architecture — reflects a philosophy of listening rather than imposing, of elevating the land’s natural energy rather than shaping it into something else.

Château Troplong Mondot is for those who seek Saint-Émilion with soul and structure — a wine of altitude and attitude, elegance and endurance, crafted not to dominate, but to reveal.
