Disznoko
Disznókő is a crown jewel of Tokaj — an estate where volcanic soils, noble rot, and centuries-old tradition converge in wines of radiant sweetness and geological depth. Situated at the heart of Hungary’s historic Tokaj region, Disznókő dates back to 1413, but its modern revival began in 1992 under the ownership of AXA Millésimes. Today, it stands as one of Tokaj’s most visionary producers, crafting Aszú wines of remarkable clarity, along with dry and late-harvest expressions that honor the soul of the land.
The 104-hectare vineyard stretches across south- and southwest-facing slopes of volcanic origin, overlooking the Bodrog River. The soils — rhyolite tuff, loess, and clay — create a matrix of minerality that lends both tension and longevity to the wines. Native Furmint leads the plantings, joined by Hárslevelű and Zéta. The estate practices sustainable viticulture with a strong emphasis on handwork: canopy management, green harvesting, and multiple harvest passes for botrytised berries. Grapes are harvested berry by berry for Aszú wines, macerated in fresh must or base wine, then aged in oak barrels in deep underground cellars carved from the rock itself.
Disznókő’s wines are poised and luminous. The Aszú 5 and 6 Puttonyos expressions are layered with orange blossom, apricot, saffron, honeycomb, and spice, carried by electric acidity and a lingering saline edge. The Late Harvest wines are fresher, textured, and lifted, while the dry Furmint shows citrus, smoke, and flint in a taut, mineral frame. Across the range, sweetness is never the destination — it is the vessel for complexity, light, and grace.
What defines Disznókő is not richness, but resonance. These are wines crafted not for excess, but for expression — shaped by volcanic soils, noble rot, and a philosophy of patience. In a region often associated with baroque opulence, Disznókő offers a more architectural vision: wines of purity, poise, and enduring structure. Under the direction of László Mészáros, the estate has redefined Tokaji as a wine of both heritage and quiet modernity.
Disznókő is for those who seek beauty that whispers — wines that glow from within, bearing the memory of mist, morning sun, and mineral earth. It is Tokaj distilled: noble, elemental, and eternally alive.
