Donna Laura
In the rolling hills of Castelnuovo Berardenga, nestled in the southern reaches of Chianti Classico, Donna Laura was born of lineage and legacy. Founded in 2004 by Lia Tolaini-Banville, the estate is a tribute to her beloved Aunt Laura—a woman of warmth, conviction, and enduring grace. Her spirit lives on through each wine, where family heritage and Tuscan tradition meet in eloquent harmony.
The vineyards rest at elevations around 200 meters, their soils a mosaic of limestone, clay, and ancient stones. Southern exposure brings generous light, while sustainable farming ensures balance and vitality in the fruit. Here, Sangiovese—the soul of the region—thrives in expressive form, its character shaped by the interplay of sun, slope, and soil.
At the heart of the portfolio lies “Ali,” named for Lia’s daughter and meaning “wings” in Italian. A blend of Sangiovese with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers bright red fruit, supple tannins, and a graceful sense of lift—an inviting wine that captures youthful charm without losing depth.
“Bramosia,” or “desire,” draws from the estate’s finest parcels. A Chianti Classico DOCG of Sangiovese and Merlot, it is partially aged in tonneaux and stainless steel, creating a wine of layered fruit, subtle spice, and poised structure. The name reflects the wine’s vivid energy—longing captured in liquid form.
“Alteo,” a Riserva named for Lia’s sons Alessandro and Matteo, channels greater depth and complexity. Made from the oldest vines and aged with care, it embodies the elegance and longevity that define great Chianti. The label, bearing the playful spirit of Bacchus, hints at the vitality within.
Each bottle tells a story, not only through its contents but through the labels, which feature hand-drawn portraits inspired by Roman mythology. Venus, Bacchus, and Cupid stand in for Lia’s children, binding past and present in one continuous narrative.
Donna Laura is more than a winery—it is an ode to ancestry, place, and personal memory. Through its wines, the estate offers a portrait of Tuscany imbued with intimacy, resilience, and a distinctly human touch.
