Jim Barry
Jim Barry Wines is a pillar of the Clare Valley — a family estate with a deep commitment to site, structure, and the evolution of fine Australian wine. Founded in 1959 by Jim Barry, the first qualified winemaker in Clare and a pioneer of the region’s modern era, the winery remains firmly in family hands today. Under the guidance of the second and third generations, led by Peter, Tom, and Sam Barry, the estate continues to produce wines of power, precision, and enduring style.
The vineyards span some of Clare Valley’s most revered sites, including the Florita Vineyard in Watervale — one of Australia’s most iconic Riesling sites — and the Armagh Vineyard, a steep, low-yielding parcel of ancient terra rossa over limestone that gives rise to one of the country’s most collected and age-worthy Shiraz wines. Sustainability is a guiding philosophy across all blocks, with a deep focus on soil health, biodiversity, and long-term resilience.
In the cellar, winemaking is thoughtful and site-led. Riesling is made reductively, fermented cool in stainless steel to preserve purity and structure, often bottled early to capture crystalline freshness. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and blends are fermented in small lots with gentle extraction and matured in French oak — tailored to preserve regional identity and varietal line. Each wine reflects the Barry family’s focus on longevity, proportion, and balance over flash.
The wines are confident and expressive. The Armagh Shiraz is dark, brooding, and finely wrought — plum, black olive, cedar, and deep spice layered over gravelly tannins. Florita Riesling is taut and pristine — lime blossom, wet stone, and a piercing acid line built for decades. The Lodge Hill and McRae Wood ranges showcase Clare’s versatility across red and white, offering fruit depth without losing shape. Across the portfolio, the style is classic yet quietly evolving — structured, regional, and built to last.
What defines Jim Barry Wines is its unshaken sense of place — a winery where legacy and innovation walk side by side, and where each wine is an echo of the land it was grown on, held in balance by time and vision.
These are wines that speak with depth and direction — crafted not for trend, but for the long journey of the cellar, the table, and the generations to come.
