Matane
Collection: Matane

Matane was born in 2008 as a project of the Empson family, who set out to explore and elevate the rich vinous heritage of Salento — the sun-washed tip of Italy’s heel in the Puglia region. Named for the founders MAria, TAra, and NEil, Matane is rooted in a deep respect for the land, its history, and the indigenous grapes that define its character.

Salento is a landscape of dramatic light, warm breezes and ancient soils, shaped by its position between the Adriatic and Ionian seas. Here, native varieties like Primitivo and Negroamaro find perfect balance — ripe, expressive and shaped by Mediterranean influence.

Matane’s mission is to delve into, enhance and share the richness of this terroir with authenticity and consistency — creating wines that capture both the bold fruit of the vines and the cultural soul of their homeland.

The brand also celebrates Salento’s cultural traditions: the label artwork features the pizzica, a traditional dance once tied to harvest rituals and ancient Dionysian celebrations. This imagery reflects the joy, community and cyclical rhythms of vineyard life — wine born of sun, soil and shared moments.

Matane wines are expressive, fruit-forward and food-friendly, ideal for relaxed gatherings or lively meals that reflect the warmth of Southern Italy. Whether it’s a rich Primitivo or a structured Negroamaro, Matane’s bottles offer a taste of Salento’s heart.
