Maude

Maude Wines is a Wanaka-based winery where alpine clarity, family craftsmanship, and Central Otago poise converge. Founded in 1994 and led by winemakers Sarah-Kate and Dan Dineen, Maude is a reflection of place and precision — producing wines that balance energy with structure, and site with soul. With fruit drawn from their estate Mt Maude Vineyard and a select group of premium sites across the region, Maude offers a lens onto Central Otago through wines of elegance, vibrancy, and quiet confidence.

The Mt Maude Vineyard, planted in 1994 on steep north-facing slopes above Lake Wanaka, provides the heart of the estate — a cool, elevated site with glacial soils and dramatic diurnal shifts that yield fruit of natural acidity, aromatic lift, and fine structure. Additional fruit is sourced from carefully selected subregions including Bendigo, Cromwell Basin, and Lowburn, allowing the Dineens to work across terroirs while maintaining a consistent house style built on purity and balance.

Winemaking is thoughtful, clean, and focused on texture and line. Pinot Noir, the flagship, is hand-harvested, fermented in small open-top fermenters with partial whole bunch, and aged in French oak (typically 20–30% new) for precision and length. Whites — Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris — are pressed gently and fermented cool, with lees contact and judicious use of old oak to enhance structure without dulling aromatic expression.

The wines are lifted, composed, and built with intention. Pinot Noir shows red cherry, wild herb, and schist-driven minerality over a taut, elegant frame. Riesling is electric — lime, jasmine, and wet stone, with crystalline acidity and age-worthy length. Chardonnay is quietly powerful, with citrus, almond, and saline drive. Across the range, the style is clear: brightness over weight, structure over sweetness, and precision over polish.

What defines Maude Wines is its combination of place and perspective — a family estate with deep roots and a restless eye for refinement.

These are wines that carry altitude in their bones — expressive, sculpted, and built to speak with clarity from the heart of Central Otago.
