Mirafiore
In the hillside vineyards of Serralunga d’Alba, where limestone and clay anchor the roots of Nebbiolo, Casa E. di Mirafiore reclaims its place as one of Barolo’s historic greats. Founded in 1878 by Emanuele Alberto Guerrieri, Count of Mirafiore and son of Italy’s first king, the estate was among the earliest to bottle Barolo under its own name. It quickly became synonymous with elegance, structure, and the noble ambition of Piedmontese wine.
Mirafiore flourished until the upheavals of the early 20th century forced its closure. But in 2008, the estate was revived by Oscar Farinetti, founder of Eataly, who restored both its historic cellars and its identity. Under his stewardship, the estate transitioned to organic viticulture by 2018 and reasserted its commitment to traditional methods rooted in terroir.
The vineyards lie entirely within the commune of Serralunga d’Alba, a terroir renowned for yielding Barolos of depth, longevity, and power. The house Barolo DOCG is a classic of the region: 100% Nebbiolo, aged for two years in medium-to-large oak barrels, followed by further refinement in bottle. It carries the signature of Serralunga—firm structure, layered aromatics, and slow-building elegance.
Mirafiore also produces site-specific Barolo bottlings, including Paiagallo and Lazzarito, each offering a unique lens on the subzone’s complexity. Paiagallo is lifted and aromatic, while Lazzarito leans into richness and depth, both grounded in meticulous vineyard care and restrained vinification.
Beyond Barolo, the estate expresses its ethos through a suite of classic Piedmontese varietals. Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba Superiore, and Langhe Nebbiolo reflect balance and varietal clarity. The addition of an Alta Langa Blanc de Noir—made from Pinot Noir—extends the range with a sparkling wine that pairs traditional méthode champenoise with the crisp mountain air of the Langhe.
Today, Casa E. di Mirafiore is more than a revival—it is a reaffirmation. With deep roots in royal history and a forward-looking approach to sustainability and craft, the estate offers wines that are as articulate as they are age-worthy.
Each bottle is a dialogue between past and present, forged in the soil of Serralunga and guided by a belief in the lasting power of place.
