Sebastiani
Sebastiani is one of Sonoma’s most storied estates — a winery whose legacy stretches back to 1904, when Samuele Sebastiani, an Italian immigrant from Tuscany, began crafting wines in the town of Sonoma using grapes from surrounding vineyards. Over the decades, the Sebastiani name became synonymous with the evolution of California wine itself: from humble beginnings to a respected, estate-driven house producing wines of depth, balance, and regional character.
Today, Sebastiani remains anchored in Sonoma County, drawing from a mosaic of vineyard sites across the Sonoma Valley, Carneros, and Alexander Valley, with a focus on varietals that thrive in the region’s diverse soils and microclimates. While Cabernet Sauvignon leads the portfolio, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Merlot all play key roles — each interpreted through a lens of classic structure and fruit purity. The winemaking reflects an estate-first approach, built on relationships with long-term growers and a commitment to sustainable viticulture.
In the cellar, Sebastiani favors a balanced, modern-traditional style. Reds are fermented in stainless steel with careful maceration, then aged in a mix of French and American oak — enough to frame the fruit, never to dominate it. Whites are cold-fermented for freshness, with select lots undergoing barrel fermentation or lees ageing to develop mouthfeel and complexity. The result is wines that are polished yet grounded — crafted with clarity and regional fidelity.
The wines are expressive and approachable. Cabernet Sauvignon offers dark fruit, cedar, and sweet tobacco, with a core of fine tannin and measured oak spice. Chardonnay is round yet restrained, with citrus, pear, and a gentle touch of vanilla. Zinfandel captures Sonoma’s warmth and energy — brambly, plush, and spiced. Across the range, the style is consistent: generous without excess, classic without rigidity.
What defines Sebastiani is its enduring presence — a winery that has quietly shaped California’s wine story for over a century, not by following fashion, but by refining what it does best.
These are wines made with a craftsman’s hand and a historian’s heart — steady, rooted, and still evolving with the rhythm of Sonoma itself.
