Spoke WInes
SPOKE Wines is a boutique New Zealand label born of collaboration, precision, and an unwavering respect for place. Created by Ben Glover and Matt Stafford — two of Aotearoa’s most accomplished wine minds — the project unites decades of experience in vineyard selection, winemaking, and regional understanding. SPOKE is not a house style, but a philosophy: to let vineyard sites speak in their own voices, with the winemaker’s role being to interpret rather than impose.
Fruit is sourced from single vineyard parcels across New Zealand, with a core focus on Marlborough, Central Otago, and Hawke’s Bay. Each block is selected for its natural balance, expressive potential, and ability to convey something quietly distinct — whether it's tension, spice, or textural depth. Growers are long-time collaborators, sharing a commitment to sustainability, vine health, and minimal intervention from soil to fruit.
In the cellar, the winemaking is as restrained as it is deliberate. Fermentations are wild wherever possible. Sauvignon Blanc is treated with softness and intent — partial barrel fermentation, lees ageing, and a refusal to chase overt aromatics in favour of mineral structure and savoury complexity. Pinot Noir is fermented in small batches with gentle handling and partial whole cluster, then aged in French oak that respects the delicacy of the fruit. Each wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve nuance.
The wines are thoughtful and composed. Sauvignon Blanc is saline, herbal, and sculpted — citrus rind, wild fennel, and flint on a sleek, dry palate. Pinot Noir shows red cherry, thyme, and fine tannins over a stony core. Chardonnay, where produced, is layered and textural, with tension from site and length from quiet élevage. Each release is made in tiny quantities, each cuvée named to reflect a thematic or geographical thread — a spoke in a wheel of broader intent.
What defines SPOKE is its collaborative elegance — a label that allows place to take the lead, with craftsmanship quietly woven through every detail.
These are wines made not to interrupt, but to reveal — honest, articulate, and always turning gently toward the centre.
