Founded by Brooke Sergent, a Marlborough local with deep roots in the region’s wine industry, The Marlborist takes a fresh, detailed approach to single-site winemaking. Rather than farming her own vineyard, Sergent works closely with a tight network of growers across Marlborough’s key subregions — Southern Valleys, Wairau, and Awatere — selecting parcels that speak with clarity and distinction. Each site is chosen for its ability to express varietal character with restraint, structure, and textural interest, often from mature vines and low-yielding blocks. Viticulture is sustainable, with an increasing emphasis on soil health and organic principles.

In the cellar, the winemaking is intuitive and minimalist. Fermentations are spontaneous where possible, and each parcel is vinified separately to preserve site identity. Sauvignon Blanc, the flagship, is handled with subtlety — wild-fermented in old oak, aged on lees, and built for structure and salinity rather than overt fruit.
