Vin de Constance

Vin de Constance

From the sun-drenched slopes of Constantia, at the southern tip of Africa, comes a wine with a story unlike any other. Vin de Constance is not just a sweet wine—it is a piece of living history, revered across centuries for its beauty, elegance, and emotional resonance.

First made in the late 1600s, Vin de Constance rose to global fame in the 18th and 19th centuries, served in royal courts and immortalised in the writings of Austen, Baudelaire, and Napoleon. It was a wine of distinction, mystery, and allure—lost to time, and then, remarkably, brought back to life.

In the 1980s, the historic Klein Constantia estate undertook the revival of this iconic wine, guided by historical records, old vines, and a singular mission: to restore Vin de Constance to its rightful place among the world’s great wines. What emerged was not a replica, but a rightful heir—crafted with the same Muscat de Frontignan grapes, and with the same sense of purpose.

Vin de Constance is shaped by its unique terroir: ocean-cooled breezes, decomposed granite soils, and a setting steeped in natural beauty. The wine itself is a harmony of sweetness and freshness, opulence and restraint—crafted slowly, aged patiently, and bottled only when its balance is complete.

To open a bottle of Vin de Constance is to experience time differently. It’s not merely a taste of place, but a conversation across centuries—a story retold, not rewritten.
