Alexia Urban Winery
Alexia Urban Winery is a small, expressive wine project rooted in Greytown, Wairarapa — one of New Zealand’s few true urban wineries, where innovation meets intimacy in the heart of town. Founded by Cara Wrigley, Alexia is named in honour of her mother and built on a foundation of family, creativity, and a deep belief in doing things differently. Here, winemaking is personal, small-scale, and entirely driven by connection — to grower, to grape, and to the people who drink the wine.
Fruit is sourced from trusted organic and sustainable growers across Wairarapa, with a focus on Gladstone, Martinborough, and surrounding high-quality sites. The fruit is picked by hand, with an emphasis on purity, freshness, and transparency — every lot is vinified with the goal of preserving the story of its place. The small scale of production allows for total control and flexibility, letting each vintage and parcel shape its own path.
In the winery, Cara works with minimal intervention and a light touch. Fermentations are wild, sulphur is low, and nothing is fined or filtered. Rosé, Pinot Noir, and Pet-Nat are core to the Alexia lineup, with other seasonal releases depending on the year. Everything is made in small batches, often just a few barrels or tanks, and bottled with care and clarity — reflecting a style that’s both raw and beautifully composed.
The wines are bright, textural, and vibrant. Pet-Nats are crisp, lightly cloudy, and joyfully dry — fizzing with citrus and natural energy. Pinot Noir is juicy, lifted, and unadorned, with red fruit and a savoury edge. Rosé is dry, herbal, and quietly structured. Each wine carries a sense of immediacy — made to be shared, not stored — but still crafted with precision and soul.
What defines Alexia Urban Winery is its intimacy — a winemaking space that feels like a living room with barrels, where every bottle is a story, and every wine is made with heart, not just technique.
These are wines that feel hand-written — expressive, modern, and made with care for the land, the craft, and the moment you open them.
