Champagne Bollinger
Champagne Bollinger is one of the great names of Champagne — a house where richness meets precision, and where Pinot Noir is elevated to its most textural, structured, and age-worthy form. Founded in 1829 in the village of Aÿ, Bollinger has remained fiercely independent, family-run, and unmistakably distinctive. Its identity is built on uncompromising craftsmanship, deep-rooted vineyard holdings, and a bold, vinous style that balances intensity with elegance.
The estate farms over 170 hectares, with more than 85% classified as Grand or Premier Cru, and with a particular focus on Pinot Noir, which forms the backbone of every cuvée. Bollinger’s vineyards are largely located in the Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, in legendary villages such as Aÿ, Verzenay, and Bouzy. The house practices sustainable viticulture, with increasing emphasis on biodiversity and regenerative farming, and holds the rare distinction of maintaining a clos (walled vineyard) — the storied Clos Saint-Jacques — at the heart of its identity.
In the cellar, tradition guides every step. Primary fermentation is carried out in small, old oak barrels, a practice that adds texture and quiet oxidative complexity. Bollinger is also one of the few houses to age reserve wines in magnum under cork, developing depth and consistency for blending. All wines undergo extended lees ageing, with R.D. (Récemment Dégorgé) showcasing this philosophy at its most expressive. Dosage is kept low, preserving tension and structure.
The wines are rich, layered, and unmistakably Bollinger. Special Cuvée, the non-vintage flagship, offers baked apple, brioche, spice, and a firm mineral backbone — Pinot Noir-dominant and beautifully poised. La Grande Année, only produced in exceptional vintages, is a step deeper: toasty, precise, and structured for long evolution. R.D., disgorged late after extended ageing, delivers energy, saline length, and rare finesse. Vieilles Vignes Françaises, from pre-phylloxera Pinot Noir vines, is among Champagne’s rarest and most contemplative bottlings. Across the range, Bollinger’s style is one of quiet opulence — texture over flash, structure over shimmer.
What defines Champagne Bollinger is its weight and stillness — a house that has never chased trend, only deepened its identity through time, discipline, and the integrity of great Pinot Noir.
These are Champagnes that stand, not float — regal, resonant, and crafted to leave a lasting imprint with every glass.
