Champagne Franck Bonville
Champagne Franck Bonville is a grower-producer rooted in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, where chalk, Chardonnay, and quiet precision define the house style. Based in Avize, one of Champagne’s greatest Grand Cru villages, the Bonville family has cultivated vines here since the 1920s and began estate-bottling their own wines in 1946. Today, under the guidance of Olivier Bonville, the third generation, the domaine crafts pure, expressive Blanc de Blancs Champagnes from some of the finest terroirs in the region.
The estate’s 20 hectares of vineyards are exclusively planted to Chardonnay, all classified Grand Cru, in Avize, Oger, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. These villages are known for their chalky subsoils, cool east-facing slopes, and ability to produce wines of elegance, tension, and mineral length. Farming is carried out with sustainable practices, focused on soil health, canopy balance, and thoughtful vineyard management across each lieu-dit.
In the cellar, the approach is clean and classically restrained. All wines are 100% Chardonnay, vinified in stainless steel to preserve purity and precision. Malolactic fermentation is typically allowed to soften acidity while maintaining freshness. Ageing on lees in bottle extends for a minimum of 36 months, often far longer, to develop depth and finesse. The house does not use oak, relying instead on terroir and time to shape each cuvée.
The wines are luminous, chalky, and composed. The Brut Grand Cru is crisp and floral — green apple, lemon zest, white flowers, and a fine mineral backbone. Extra Brut and Unplugged cuvées bring even more definition and linearity, ideal for purists. The Vintage offerings show weight and longevity, while the Prestige and Pur Avize bottlings explore tension, texture, and site-specific detail. Across the range, the style is unmistakable: crystalline Chardonnay built on line and limestone.
What defines Champagne Franck Bonville is its quiet focus — a grower’s house that lets the chalk do the talking, crafting wines that echo the Côte des Blancs with clarity and composure.
These are Champagnes that don’t dazzle with volume — they resonate in light, silence, and the mineral hum of Avize stone.
