In the heart of Sauternes, where morning mists once meant sweet wine alone, Clos des Lunes is rewriting the narrative. Founded in 2011 by Olivier Bernard of Domaine de Chevalier, this visionary estate has taken root in a region long defined by botrytised opulence—but here, the focus is crystalline dry whites, crafted with the same reverence, precision, and ambition as Bordeaux’s great reds.

The estate spans 60 hectares of rolling hills between the villages of Sauternes, Bommes, and Barsac. These vineyards, some with vines over 70 years old, are planted on deep gravel and clay-limestone soils—perfect for Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The Semillon delivers flesh and texture; the Sauvignon, lift and aromatic clarity. Together, they express a terroir once known only for sweetness, now reimagined through the lens of minerality and purity.

Farming at Clos des Lunes is meticulous, with a strong commitment to sustainability and biodiversity. Hand-harvesting is done in successive passes, with only the most pristine fruit selected. In the cellar, vinification is adapted to each cuvée—fermentations occur in temperature-controlled stainless steel or small oak barrels, with aging on lees to build texture and length.

The Clos des Lunes “Lune d’Argent” is the estate’s calling card: fresh, vibrant, and mineral-driven, with white peach, citrus, and subtle floral notes riding a spine of tension and chalky grip. The “Lune Blanche” offers approachability and early charm, while the top-tier “Lune d’Or”, from old vines and barrel-aged, is textured, structured, and capable of long aging—a white Bordeaux with real gravitas.

Clos des Lunes stands as both a counterpoint and a complement to its Sauternais surroundings. It honors the soil and climate that have shaped the region for centuries, but channels them through a new vision—one of dry elegance, quiet strength, and expressive finesse.
