Domaine Jean Chartron
In the limestone folds of Puligny-Montrachet, where Burgundy reveals its quiet grandeur, Domaine Jean Chartron has stood as a guardian of terroir and tradition since 1859. The estate was founded by Jean-Édouard Dupard—cooper, winemaker, and mayor of Puligny—whose efforts led to the village adopting “Montrachet” in its name, forever tying its identity to one of the world’s most revered vineyards.
Now under the fifth generation of family stewardship, led by Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron, the domaine cultivates approximately 14 hectares across some of the Côte de Beaune’s most prized crus. Among these are Grand Crus Chevalier-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet, and the Premier Crus Clos de la Pucelle and Clos du Cailleret—two monopoles that the estate holds exclusively, enclosed and protected parcels that speak of legacy and lineage.
In the vineyard, organic principles guide the work, with minimal intervention and a focus on expressing each site's intrinsic character. Chardonnay reigns supreme here, with old vines rooted in limestone and marl, producing fruit of tension and clarity. The cellar follows a gentle hand: fermentation and aging take place in French oak barrels, with restrained use of new wood, and long lees contact to build texture and complexity without masking the wine’s origin.
Each cuvée tells its own story. Clos de la Pucelle Premier Cru is floral and poised, with chalky finesse. Clos du Cailleret leans into minerality and structure, offering greater length and precision. Chevalier-Montrachet, the crown jewel of the domaine, is both powerful and restrained—built to age, but already whispering of citrus, hazelnut, and stone.
Beyond Puligny, the domaine extends into Saint-Aubin, Meursault, and Rully, maintaining the same clarity of purpose: to translate place into wine with honesty and restraint.
Domaine Jean Chartron is not a house of spectacle but of quiet craftsmanship. With deep roots in Puligny’s soil and history, its wines resonate with purity, elegance, and a timeless sense of place.
