On a windswept island off Scotland’s west coast, where dramatic cliffs meet endless sea, the Isle of Raasay Distillery quietly produces some of the country’s most distinctive young spirits. Located just across the water from Skye, the island of Raasay is remote, rugged, and rich with character—an ideal setting for a distillery that draws deeply from its surroundings.

Founded in 2017, it is the first legal distillery ever to operate on Raasay, and every aspect of production takes place on the island—from water source to final ageing. The mineral-rich spring water, sourced just behind the distillery, gives a clean and structured foundation to the spirit. Barley is often grown locally, and the whisky is lightly peated—a subtle nod to tradition that never overwhelms the natural elegance of the final dram.

Ageing takes place in a curated mix of casks—ex-rye, virgin Chinkapin oak, and red wine barrels from Bordeaux—resulting in a whisky that’s layered, expressive, and wise beyond its years. Notes of stone fruit, heather, brine, and soft smoke drift through each sip, grounded in a texture that reflects the patience and care of its creation. Whether in the flagship single malt or one of their limited releases, every bottle carries the quiet complexity of the island itself.

Alongside the whisky, the distillery also produces Isle of Raasay Gin—a refined and aromatic spirit made with ten carefully selected botanicals, including wild Raasay juniper. It’s vibrant and mineral-driven, with citrus, floral notes, and a delicate island freshness. Like the whisky, the gin is a direct reflection of place, crafted with the same attention to detail and sense of purpose.
