Jules Taylor
Jules Taylor is a Marlborough winery built on instinct, authenticity, and the unshakable clarity of a winemaker who knows exactly what she stands for. After two decades making wine for others, Jules Taylor stepped out on her own in 2001 with a simple vision: to craft honest wines that capture the soul of Marlborough without noise or artifice. With just a few barrels and a handful of friends, she launched a label that would become one of New Zealand’s most beloved expressions of Sauvignon Blanc — and a reflection of Jules herself: vibrant, grounded, and unapologetically real.
The grapes are sourced from a tight-knit network of sustainably farmed vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau and Awatere Valleys. These subregions bring contrast — the Wairau’s sunlit fruit purity, the Awatere’s herbal lift and tension. Fruit is harvested in the cool of night to preserve freshness, with each block fermented separately to retain site character. Farming partnerships are long-standing, based on shared values of transparency, soil health, and working in rhythm with the land.
In the cellar, Jules takes a gentle hand. Fermentation is cool and slow, mostly in stainless steel for Sauvignon Blanc, with subtle lees work to build texture. Pinot Noir is destemmed and fermented in open-top tanks, aged in a mix of French oak barrels to bring structure without overshadowing fruit. The winemaking is intuitive, precise — more about feeling the vintage than forcing a formula.
The wines are energetic and expressive. Sauvignon Blanc, the flagship, is crisp, layered, and luminous — passionfruit, kaffir lime, elderflower, and flinty drive. Pinot Noir shows bright cherry, subtle spice, and a silken frame. Grüner Veltliner and Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc round out the range, each crafted with the same sense of clarity and ease. They are wines that reflect place without pretense — Marlborough sunlight, cool nights, and a winemaker’s steady confidence.
Jules Taylor’s wines carry a kind of unfiltered sincerity — a sense that behind every bottle is not just a vineyard, but a voice that knows when to speak and when to simply let the wine shine.
