Rich, golden and beautifully fresh, Château Suduiraut 2023 is filled with fresh citrus, candied lemon and concentrated citrus fruit. There is considerable sweetness and intensity, but bright acidity cuts through the richness, giving this Sauternes wonderful purity and balance.
A Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, Suduiraut is one of the great estates of Sauternes. The 2023 is unusually made from 100% Sémillon, bringing richness, texture and the capacity for long ageing. Botrytis is clearly expressed, adding the complex roasted and candied character that sits beneath the wine's fresh fruit.
The harvest took place over three selective pickings between 18 September and 17 October. Rain late in September encouraged botrytis, followed by warmer, drier conditions that allowed the fruit to achieve excellent concentration. The resulting wine combines 150g/L of residual sugar with distinct acidity – rich and luscious, but never simply sweet.
Ageing takes place for 16 to 20 months, with half the wine in new barrels and half in one-year-old barrels. This is classic Sauternes: generous, concentrated and complex, with freshness running right through it and the structure to develop beautifully over many years.

The 2023 Suduiraut is a model of modern Sauternes. Orange peel, burnt sugar, crème-brûlée, tangerine peel, and wild flowers inform a Sauternes of total finesse and silkiness. Yields were a measly 12 hectoliters per hectare. The 150 grams of residual sugar are not especially evident. Everything about the 2023 is perfectly judged. It can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring or cellared for decades. The 2023 is a timeless wine that is among the most notable successes of the year.

The 2023 Suduiraut is a knockout Sauternes for the vintage. Very pure on the nose with wild honey, apricot and touches of lychee, this is packed with botrytised fruit. The palate has just the right amount of viscosity without overloading in terms of weight, making this relatively easier drinking compared to other vintages. Irresistible. 150 g/L residual sugar.

100% Sémillon. RS 150 g/l. Cask sample. Golden hue. Marmalade and barley-sugar notes on the nose. Smooth and suave on attack with a density of fruit behind. The 2023 Suduiraut is pure Sémillon that was picked from the end of September with more passerillage berries. After the rain, the first botrytis picking began on October 1 and lasted over the next 12 days, when botrytization was rapid. Seventy percent of the crop was picked on this date, which was essential for maintaining purity of fruit. The harvest concluded on October 17 after three tries through the vineyard. Matured in 50% new oak, it has a lovely, beguiling bouquet with dried honey, quince, almond and saffron aromas that are beautifully defined. The palate is well balanced with a spicy, tensile opening. Very impressive richness matches with a silver bead of acidity here. This is armed with immense purity on the finish that effortlessly manages the 150g/L residual sugar. Supremely gifted Suduiraut, ahoy.
