Deep garnet with ruby edges, the 2020 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru from Domaine Seguin-Manuel opens with a powerful yet nuanced aromatic profile—black cherry, cassis, violet, and rose petal layered over undertones of graphite, warm spice, and damp earth. Sourced from a steep, east-facing slope within the historic Rognet climat, the fruit is organically grown on marl and limestone soils, yielding naturally low yields of concentrated character. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open wooden vats is followed by 18 months’ maturation in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, endowing the wine with firm structure and aromatic complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied and muscular, yet finely balanced, with a core of dark fruit, licorice, and clove wrapped in velvety tannins and lifted by a stony mineral edge. The finish is long and resonant, echoing with notes of black fruit, spice, and forest floor.
