Peregrine

Peregrine Wines is a Central Otago estate shaped by mountains, light, and stillness — a family-owned winery where elegance is carved from altitude and time. Nestled in Gibbston Valley, and drawing from vineyards across Bendigo, Cromwell Basin, and Lowburn, Peregrine has built a reputation for purity, precision, and its quiet stewardship of land and vine. Since its founding in 1998, the McLachlan family has crafted wines that honour both the rugged beauty of Otago and the fine architecture of cool-climate varietals.

The estate’s vineyards are organically certified and farmed with a long view — regenerative practices, biodiversity corridors, and minimal inputs create a living ecosystem beneath the vines. Each subregion brings something distinct: Bendigo’s sunlit power, Gibbston’s alpine finesse, and Lowburn’s supple, silken line. This diversity allows Peregrine to craft wines with both breadth and subtlety, built from nature rather than shaped around it.

In the winery, the approach is measured and restrained. Pinot Noir, the flagship, is hand-harvested, wild-fermented, and aged in fine French oak — a gentle evolution that builds detail, not weight. Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Gris are treated with the same care — whole-bunch pressed, fermented slowly, and aged on lees to bring quiet texture and drive. Minimal sulphur and no fining or filtration are used in select cuvées, reflecting the estate’s deep commitment to transparency.

The wines are polished, lifted, and expressive of place. Pinot Noir is floral and spice-edged, with red cherry, forest floor, and mineral persistence. Chardonnay walks the line between energy and restraint — citrus peel, almond, and saline length — while Riesling and Pinot Gris offer structure, aromatic purity, and gentle grip. Across the range, there is a through-line of elegance — wines made not for volume, but for vibration.

What defines Peregrine is its constancy — a winery that has remained quietly exacting, letting the landscape do the talking while it listens carefully, year after year.

These are wines that rise, not with force, but with lift — alpine in spirit, focused in form, and always grounded in the wild precision of Central Otago.
