This is Carricante with real energy — think fresh lemon zest, green apple and a crunch that feels straight out of the fridge on a hot day. There’s a salty, mouth-watering edge running alongside the fruit that keeps it sharp, clean and seriously drinkable.

Grown high on the slopes of Mount Etna, these old bush vines dig deep into porous lava soils, pulling up a natural minerality that gives the wine its crystalline feel.
 
The vineyards sit so high they fall outside the Etna DOC, but for Carlo Ferrini — one of Italy’s most respected winemakers — this is exactly where the best vines are. Fermented and aged in stainless steel with careful lees contact, the wine balances Etna’s wild character with precision and finesse. 
 
Fresh, volcanic and quietly complex, this is Etna white at its most compelling.

The purity of fruit and transparency are really captivating, with aromas of dried apples, limes, green mangoes and crushed stones. Medium-bodied with flavors of sliced apples and pears. Minerally undertone. Long and flavorful. Drink now.

The irony is that historically Carlo Ferrini's best wines are his reds, and many of those are made in Tuscany. However, this talented winemaker now brings us one of the very best white wines from Sicily's Etna. The Alberelli di Giodo 2021 Sicilia Carricante hits that beautiful intersection between citrusy fruit and salty mineral. The wine is balanced and intense and reveals more complexity that you might expect. We should expect even more as it ages and begins to show some of those lovely Riesling-like petroleum aromas in time. Production is limited to about 3,500 bottles.
