Champagne Philipponnat Mareuil Sur Ay 2014 (750ml)
Champagne Philipponnat Mareuil Sur Ay 2014 (750ml)
Pale gold with a fine, persistent bead, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ 2014 (100% Pinot Noir) opens with a refined and expressive nose—baked apple, wild cherry, orange zest, and toasted almond, layered over chalk, smoke, and subtle spice. Sourced from a single Premier Cru vineyard in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, this terroir-driven cuvée is vinified in oak barrels without malolactic fermentation, preserving tension and purity. Aged for over seven years on lees and finished with a low dosage (4.25 g/L), the palate is structured, savoury, and layered—red fruit, citrus peel, and patisserie notes glide over a mineral core. The finish is long, saline, and quietly powerful. A cerebral, site-expressive Champagne—precise, vinous, and deeply rooted in place.

The 2014 Champagne Premier Cru Mareuil-Sur-Ay Extra Brut is only released in select years and comes from three Pinot Noir plots from the home village. It pours a deep straw hue and displays a rounded profile with lush aromas of fresh plum, a hint of blue fruit, shortbread cookie, red apple, and incense. Full-bodied, it floats across the palate with a rounded mouthfeel and a long finish. A very pretty style, it's delicious now but has a long drink window over the coming decades. 3,210 bottles were produced. Disgorged June 2022, with 4.5 grams per liter dosage.
