The 2020 Les Forts de Latour is a triumph of textural elegance, offering a more succulent and extroverted personality than the Grand Vin. Thanks to a slightly higher Merlot proportion, the mid-palate is plusher, featuring ripe black raspberry and dark chocolate accented by a refreshing top note of bay leaf. It successfully marries the estate’s signature aristocratic poise with a sense of immediate, flowing generosity.

Underneath its accessible charm lies a steely mineral core and beautifully polished tannins that provide exceptional focus. The finish is persistent and clean, leaving lingering notes of woodsmoke and crushed gravel. While it possesses the concentration to age for decades, it will likely enter its prime drinking window by 2030, performing with the depth of a top-tier Médoc classified growth.

Critic reviews

ANTONIO GALLONI | Vinous, 95/100

The 2020 Les Forts de Latour is superb. Hints of gravel, dried herbs, game and licorice weave through a core of dark red/purplish fruit. Spice, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco follow. The purity of the flavors is just striking. Initially a touch reticent, the 2020 fleshes out beautifully with a bit of air. I would give this at least another year or two in bottle. A magnificent Forts de Latour.

JANE ANSON, 95/100

Love the texture and depth on display from the first momebt, a brilliant vintage to track down a bottle of Les Forts de Latour. This is packed with delicious and sappy blackberry, damson and cassis fruit, coupling concentration and elegance.

NEAL MARTIN | Vinous, 95/100

The 2020 Les Forts de Latour has a marvelous bouquet with fine delineation, lively and vibrant. The marine/crustacea aspect here is more prominent than its showing from barrel. Several swirls later and a lovely graphite element pins down its birthplace. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, ever so slightly candied in style, perhaps with a touch more red fruit than recent vintages, blood orange and pencil box. It fans out beautifully on the finish - a really quite gorgeous Les Forts de Latour in the making.

LISA PERROTTI-BROWN | Thewinepalate.com, 95/100

The nose is very closed to begin, slowly offering glimpses at crushed blackberries, mulberries, and cassis notes, followed by hints of aniseed, black truffles, and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is very tightly wound with loads of vibrant black fruit and earthy layers and a firm, grainy backbone, finishing long with a compelling lift.
