A classic expression of Bannockburn Pinot Noir, Jackson’s Block 2024 reflects both its dramatic mountain setting and the quiet authority of vines planted in 1991. This is a site that consistently delivers depth and structure, and in 2024 it does so with striking clarity and precision.

The aromatics are layered and savoury: dark cherry and crushed blackberry lead into notes of dried strawberry, clove, white pepper and a fine thread of flint and iodine. There’s a lifted floral edge, but the wine leans confidently into its darker, more serious register.

On the palate, it is linear and architectural. Crushed berries and black cherry unfold across a firm framework of ripe, finely honed tannins. The structure is pronounced yet beautifully controlled — powerful without excess, carrying the fruit with authority and focus. Wild fermentation and minimal intervention preserve both site and season, allowing the mineral, dark-fruited character to speak clearly.

The finish is long and resonant, with spice and savoury nuance lingering well beyond the last sip. A poised and structured Pinot Noir that will reward patience, evolving gracefully as its tannins soften and its layered complexity deepens.

Critic reviews

James Suckling, 99/100

A linear and structured pinot noir with firm and racy tannins and aromas of spices, flint, iodine and oysters. The palate shows crushed berries and cherry blossoms. Needs time to open, but it’s superb already. From own-rooted 777 clone with a touch of Pommard planted in the 1990s and farmed organically. Better in a few years. Drink or hold.
