Terra Sancta
Terra Sancta is a Bannockburn estate where landscape, detail, and intuition converge — a Central Otago winery defined by its profound connection to place and its commitment to telling that story vineyard by vineyard, vine by vine. Situated on Felton Road, one of the most coveted terroirs in the southern hemisphere, Terra Sancta cultivates wines that are as expressive as they are exacting — shaped by schist, sun, and the quiet wildness of the region’s alpine edges.
The estate farms four vineyards across 42 hectares — including the Terra Sancta Estate, Slapjack Block, and Jackson's Block, each with distinct soil structures, elevations, and microclimates. Pinot Noir leads the narrative, supported by aromatic whites such as Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay, alongside small but striking parcels of Rosé and Bubbles. The farming is regenerative and low-intervention, with a strong focus on soil health, biodiversity, and vine expression. Hand-harvesting and precise block selection guide every vintage.
In the cellar, the winemaking is detailed but hands-off. Fermentations are native, extraction is restrained, and élevage is tailored by site — with a mix of French oak barrels (predominantly used), concrete eggs, and minimal additions. Pinot Noir is typically whole-berry or partial whole-bunch, allowing each clone and block to express nuance and texture without heaviness. Whites are fermented with energy and precision, often with time on lees to build subtle weight and length.
The wines are vibrant, mineral, and tightly composed. Pinot Noir from the Slapjack Block is dark-fruited and structural; Jackson's Block shows aromatic lift, spice, and clarity; Estate Pinot Noir offers a layered, finely poised introduction to Bannockburn. Whites show salinity and poise — Riesling is electric, Chardonnay focused and textural. Every wine carries a sense of the vineyard it came from, a lightness of touch, and an undercurrent of place-driven intensity.
What defines Terra Sancta is its sense of wonder — not romanticism, but curiosity sharpened by precision. It’s a winery that treats winemaking as an exploration of land, time, and texture.
These are wines that don’t simply reference place — they live it, line by line, season by season, in every glass.
